Born in Paris, France, saxophonist Aaron Stewart has appeared in the United States and abroad in venues that include the International Saxophone Symposium, The Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Verizon Hall and The Perelman Theater at The Kimmel Center, Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, The Holywell Music Room at Oxford University, The Kitchen, NYC, and Carnegie Hall. Mr. Stewart has been involved in classical and contemporary music performances in Philadelphia since 2007, and has performed with various ensembles at The Curtis Institute, with Symphony in C, NJ, the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Ballet. In 2008 he was called to perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mr. Stewart has devoted much of his artistic energy to premiering new works and collaborating with local and internationally acclaimed composers establishing himself as one of the most sought-after contemporary saxophonists in Philadelphia. Mr. Stewart has appeared as soloist for Philadelphia Fringe Festivals, Bowerbird events, and most recently performed with Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra’s ‘Ghost Horizons’ in collaboration with Ars Nova Workshop. He is a founding member of the Arcana New Music Ensemble whose Julius Eastman retrospective (2018) was announced as Arts Sections top picks and reviewed by the New York Times, The New Yorker, and the Philadelphia Inquirer. In addition to solo performances on a Luciano Berio Symposium (2016) and performance-lectures on American Minimalism (2019) and Spectral Music (2020) at The Curtis Institute, Mr. Stewart has presented multiple performance lectures for the International Saxophone Academy and is a recipient of the Tuttle Creative Residency (2019) at Haverford College. He currently teaches woodwinds for the School District of Philadelphia and is Artist Faculty of saxophone at Rutgers University, Camden, NJ. Mr. Stewart’s major teachers include Lynn Klock, Gilles Tressos, and Marshall Taylor.
